The recently released Performance Grading Index for Districts (PGI-D) 2020-21 & 2021-22 is a critical tool for assessing school education performance at the district level. The comprehensive index provides valuable insights for policy makers to design evidence based interventions. In this context, this article sheds light on the performance of the 35 districts of Assam based on PGI methodology and tracks the key challenges that have affected the district’s grades in the PGI 2021-22. It further highlights the key areas for policy interventions in Assam’s education sector.
