What does Budget 2007-08 offer women?
As the name suggests, the article draws attention to the total magnitude of the Gender Budget statement in the Union Budget. It highlights the positive steps taken by the Government to strengthen the gender budget exercise but at the same time underlines the emerging concerns. It further probes into the gender budget statement from three lenses: sectoral lens, from the lens of marginalsed and from the human rights lens. Most importantly, it locates the scope of the gender budget exercise in the overall macro scenario.
